The goal of this program is to expose youth to the business side of the media industry. We will teach youth sales and marketing techniques, while exposing them to entrepreneurship and business. We will give youth real world experience by having them present True Star magazine, True Star Radio, True Star TV and Truestaris.com to advertising agencies and large corporations. We want to expose youth to the many positions in the media business as well as marketing and selling advertising for actual media properties. This program will improve and enhance participants communication skills, research skills, writing skills, and create a network by exposing them to industry professionals. True Star plans to impact the youth served by developing the following: • Complex Cognitive Skills – Reflective thought, critical thinking, quantitative reason, and intellectual flexibility • Knowledge Acquisition – Subject matter master and knowledge application • Interpersonal Development – Autonomy, identity, self-esteem, increase sense of personal control, maturity, better development of life skills (i.e. leadership, decision making), increased quality of peer and adult relationships • Practical Competence – College preparation, career preparation, managing school and personal affairs • Civic Responsibility – Responsibilities as a citizen in a democratic society and commitment to democratic ideals • Academic Achievement – Increased grades and excitement within academics, making a connection between things learned in school and the skills needed to be successful in the workplace
