A student from the 7th grade participated in the inSTEM program for girls where they learned how to build a robot from a LEGO Mindstorm’s kit. She used an application to code commands that the robot would execute. The student worked in a team to collaborate on the build and code. they used their knowledge of the coding program to complete multiple obstacle courses that pertain to the various features of the software.

    CPS Shakespeare! is a transformational program at Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) that invites CPS high school students and their teachers from across the city into our rehearsal room to create a completely original Shakespeare production. Through a five-week intensive rehearsal process under the guidance of a full team of professional CST artists, this intergenerational ensemble works together to prepare a fully designed production, culminating in two performances on Chicago Shakespeare’s mainstage in the Courtyard Theater. Students who complete this badge have demonstrated their understanding of text clues in Shakespeare, how the body and voice can be used as storytelling instruments and how an ensemble works together. They have improved their literacy skills and developed the skill of interpreting and embodying multiple characters. Throughout the program, they are challenged to take risks and to support their fellow ensemble members, empowering them to approach life’s off-stage challenges with an open mind, bravery and self-confidence.
